Ok I have differnet problem not with my computer

my nephew computer will not get on line
this has started with then the last few days

if you try to get on line it goes through all the way untill it signs on line
right befor it goes on line it will stop
he is on dail up so you hear it dailing and trying to make the connection
but like i said right befor it stops and will not let you on

after a few trys you will have to shut down the computer
and reboot it back up to try again..

if you try in the safe mode it will let you on line but sends you to
the page for the sever he uses, saying that you may need to download
a newer copy ,
with that done and back out of safe mode you still cant get on line
the computer runs just fine other then it doesnt want to let you on line
the phone line was checked and also tryed on another connection
but still will not let you on line .....all the connections to get on line are right
any ideas ???

there is a possibility of a malware infection. I would recommend starting here and follow the instructions listed. since that machine can't get online, you can download Hijack this and the other programs and copy them to a thumb drive, CD or floppy and copy over to the machine in question to get the logs, doing the same thing for posting the logs in the malware forums.
