Hi huv123,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
. Click the Config button located in the lower right hand corner of the HijackThis window.
. When the new screen opens, find and click the Miscellaneous Tools button.
. Then choose the Open Process Manager button.
. From the list of processes, hilight the following items by clicking them, ONE AT A TIME, then DELETE them by clicking the KILL button:

c:\windows\system32\fqqedtx.exe

Once all items have been KILLED, click the Back button which will return you to the HijackThis main window. Now place a check mark beside each one of the following items:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [aspdirb] c:\windows\system32\fqqedtx.exe

Now with all the items selected, delete them by clicking the FIX checked button. Close the HijackThis window and Reboot Your System in Safe Mode

How to use the F8 method to Start Your Computer in Safe Mode

*Restart the computer.
*as soon as BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until the Advanced Options menu appears.
*Use the arrow keys to select the Safe mode menu item
*press Enter.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following and deleteit (ifit is present):

c:\windows\system32\fqqedtx.exe

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren

I cant find the file you are talking about or the [04]... etc.. I just realised its the same as the stuff above?

I have still been having problems with aurareco.exe and my computer shuting down and starting up by itself (not often. 2 or 3 times) --> could this be software conflict with all the new software I have put on my comp?

Hi huv123,

I just forgot to change the name. I was thinking about another case, I guess.

Now remove all the programs that I had you download except for AVG7 and Microsoft Anti Spyware and anything else that isn't a specialized malware removal tool. Those that require uninstalling have to be removed that way. We don't want some of these programs available to anyone who touches your machine because they can do a lot of dammage in the wrong hands.

And send me a new log please.

The basic problems of my computer restarting by itself, popup adds from abetterinternet.com and loadingwebsite.com etc.. havent really resolved so much. The viruses seem to self-replicate.

I had to delete Black Ice from the computer because of what i thought was software conflict. Right now I have Microsoft antispyware, AVG7 and SpySubtract running at the moment. I deleted all the other programs I downloaded I think.

Hi huv123,

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

1) Download "service Filter" from : HERE to your Desktop so you can find it easily later. Do not use it now.

2) Open HijackThis, run a SCAN, Scroll down the list of entries until you reach the 023 entries. Here I need you to find the following entries:

O23 - Service: Microsoft Windows Update (Microsoft Update) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\C:\WINDOWS\System32\scvvhost.exe" -netsvcs (file missing)

Write down, on a piece of paper for future reference all the information pertaining to that entry.

Close HijackThis.
---------------------------------
3. Now open Service Filter by clicking on its icon.
. Then click OK and OK again when prompted.
. A Wordpad text will appear on your desktop. Scroll down the list of services until you find the services containing the names you wrote down during the preceding procedure.
. For each 023 involved, carefully write down the name that appears beside the label "Service Name". These names will be required in the next step.
. Close the program when finished.
----------------------------
4. Now we need to work from the Command Prompt

Go Start>>Programs>>Accessories>>Command Prompt

. A black box will appear with a flashing cursor. At the cursor, type cd.. then cd.. again and repeat the procedure until the writing preceeding the cursor says C:\>

. Now carefully type the following: sc delete servicename, where servicename is replaced by the one of the real service names that you have written down. (Probably "Microsoft Update") Press ENTER.

.Close the Command Prompt box.
------------------------------------------
Now to stuff we are more familiar with:

Now let's do some work on your log:

First we need to make all files and folders VISIBLE:

Go to start>control panel>folder options>view (tab)
*choose to "show hidden files and folders,"
*uncheck the "hide protected operating system files" and the "hide extensions for know file types" boxes.
*Close the window with ok
*All hidden files will now be visible

Close all browser windows and RUN HijackThis.
. Click the SCAN button to produce a log.
Place a check mark beside the following item:

O23 - Service: Microsoft Windows Update (Microsoft Update) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\System32\C:\WINDOWS\System32\scvvhost.exe" -netsvcs (file missing)

Click on Fixed Checked and exit program.

REBOOT into SAFE MODE

Delete the following file, if it exists:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\scvvhost.exe

Exit Explorer, and REBOOT BACK INTO NORMAL MODE

Finally,RUN Hijackthis again and produce a new HJT log. Post it in the forum so we can check how everytjhing looks now.

Regards,

Trevuren

FYI- I just found this forum through google. Excellent tips, and I successfully got rid of svcproc.exe after hours and hours. Now HijackThis is far more useful to me.
w0rd up.

i cant delete microsoft update using command prompt. THis was the problem earlier I think i am going in circles. I am also now infected with Trojan: Startpage and I cant follow the directions on Symantec. Im getting a blank page on IE when i open it instead of google.com which i normally get and am also getting all these por*ography and finance links added to my favourites list.

Hi huv123,

You are right. Around and around we go...

Let's see if we can stop it

I would like you to download and run a free trial version of an anti-trojan program called Trojan Hunter: Trojan Hunter . Let it scan your whole system and remove anything it finds.

REBOOT
your system.

Send a fresh log please after you are finished.

Regards,

Trevuren

In the end I took the computer to the IT person at the hospital where I worked and he couldnt get rid of the problems and suggested I reformat. I backup-ed all important files and reformatted. I have included the new log - can you maybe see if i have anything on start up i can get rid of? i tried to use black ice as a firewall again but it was still cumbersome and annoying so i deleted it. However, now I downloaded SP2 from microsoft but now my adsl modem is appearing in the device manager like when i connect ipod to the computer??
what can i do to get rid of this?

Also now that I have my computer clean, what can i do (except having the antivirus running all the time) can i do? I downloaded adaware again but otherwise I have nothing else on my computer for anti-spyware/adaware/trojans?

Microsoft has their firewall running, which came with SP2. Is this good enough?

Hi huv123,

I am sorry in a way you had your drive reformatted but if it is giving more peace of mind, then it was worth it. You already have a program on your system that reports your moves to Realtec. If it doesn't bother you, please tell meso.

As far as programs go to help you fend off malware. I will provide you with some good recommendations once you have decoded about that little program
