Windows 2000 Professional - Same problem as cicciolo after a particularly nasty attack of "spyware ad" I have Symantec AntiVirus, PopUp Stopper, SureClean Professional as well as Webroot Spy Sweeper. System seems clean, but after Spy Sweepers "Restoring defaults" prompt everything went in the crapper. Have not lost anything, but it's making me very nervous.

Right click doesn't work on desktop, can't change Background display setting [shows "desktop" as picture] and any icons put on desktop double up. If I put the icons in a folder the duplicates vanish.

Hi,
After removal of all spyware, I have found this procedure and my computer seems to work fine.
I have a win2000 machine, with the same problem of doubling icons and no functioning rigth clik.

Try this:

search and replace in all registry :

NoViewContextMenu = 0 (from 1 to 0)
NoActiveDesktop = 1 (from 0 to 1)
ClassicShell = 1

Wallpaper =
ConvertedWallpaper =
OriginalWallpaper =
CoolSwitch = 0
CoolSwitchColumns = 0
CoolSwitchRows = 0
WallpaperStyle = 0

ForegroundFlashCount=0
ForegroundLockTimeout=0

and finally in

\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop
\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop

you must set ALL key to 0

:tazz:

get right!

for me is all ok...
