my laptops cd/dvd-rw drive is only readinng dvds
if u insert a cd it tries to play it and then comes up with an error message saying something like can not read disc its in wrong format
i took this to ashby computers and they said this was to do with the lazer brokn and tht it would cost £150 to replace
i then got another guy to look @ it who said it was a software problem
i have no idea wots wrong weterher hardware or software does any1 no wots wrong??

Have you tried reinstalling the drivers for the CD/DVD rom?

Have you tried different types of CD's to see if it will read from a different brand?

If you have most likely the lazer is in fact broken. However if you have not I would try the suggestions above before replacing it or paying 150 to fix it.
