So I have an ATI X1950 XTX Card.

What I've understood is if I buy the Crossfire edition of the x1950, I'll have crossfire. (My motherboard is crossfire ready as well)

What I don't understand is what crossfire does.

Is it basically just alot better performance?

I mean on the one XTX alone I have now, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion runs perfectly. So does F.E.A.R. Maybe a tidbit of lag while I'm on a horse or something here or there.

If I buy the second x1950, what will that solve? Is it worth it?

Just want to add something here, xfire and SLI is a marketing gimic that makes you pay 100% more for only an additional average of 15% more. No i'm not underexagerating, hopefully they perfect this technology one day but till then......
