Hi,

me and my friends are playing aoe2: The conquerors daily, and i'm the main hoster, cause... i got the best connection (cable), i always use www.whatismyip.com to give them my ip, it has worked for months, and now suddenly, nobody can find my game anymore :/, i know most connection problems are related to router ports, firewalls etc, but i have no router, no firewall, no virus scanner, and i did nothing with my internet settings or whatever :/

if anybody knows what the problem is would be great

euhm... we dont know to much of PC and such, they dont know how to ping my ip ... and i dont know either :/

go to the start menu, then run. type in cmd and click ok.

This will bring up a dos box. Type in ping 127.0.0.1 where 127.0.0.1 would be the ip of your system. You can use the info from whatismyip.com.

for example: whatismyip shows 76.183.124.77
from the dos box i would type in ping 76.183.124.77
then hit the enter key.

It will respond back with 4 replies. What we want is each reply to have a response time and not "timed out".

Ok i asked serveral people to ping to my ip, they all got timed out, that's bad right?

Yes. It means that something between you and them isn't work. Lets start with a few basic steps:

What is your ip?

am it's 81.164.94.110

but it changes daily though (my friends are trying to connect to the right ip though, everytime we want to play i go to whatismyip.com again so they wont have an old ip)

well I did a trace route. this shows the path to your system. This is what I got:

What ever is next in linke after the .250.170 ip address is failing.

This appears to be something with your ISP. Are any of your friends on the same ISP?

Also I would recommend that you power of your modem for about 5 min. then power it back on and let it go through it's connection process.

Also, i'm moving this to the network forum as this is a network issue.

Can you ping your isp's gateway..... heres how:

Without a Router--------------
Click on START
Click on RUN
Type in: CMD :and press ENTER
Whn the black window appears type in: ipconfig :and hit enter
you should get three lines of information back; IP Address, Subnet Mask, and Default Gateway.
Now type in: ping 68.12.34.165 :where 68.12.34.165 would be the address you received for default gateway in the last step - I just put mine in to show you how.
Copy back you results

With a Router---------------------
Click on START
Click on RUN
Type in: CMD :and press ENTER
Whn the black window appears type in: ipconfig :and hit enter
Copy down the default gateway address and then minimize this window
Open internet explorer and in the address bar type in the default gateway address i had you copy down in the last step and hit ENTER
This should take you to you router configuration utility where you will get a page or window asking for your username and password.
Here is a list of default user names and passwords if you don't know yours. After step 43.
Once the correct user name and password is entered you want to navigate to the STATUS section and locate the default gateway listed there (this is your actual ISP's gateway)
If you are unable to find it STOP here and post back your routers make and model and i will post specific instructions for your router on where to obtain it.
Once you find it, copy it down, and maximize the black window i had you minimize earlier
From the black window type in: ping defaultgateway :where you would insert the address i had you copy down in the last step.
Post back your results

people can ping to the gateway adress, and not to my normal IP adress

I am stumped.. You can ping out fine but you cant ping in.... call your ISP and find out what ports they block and if the allow ICMP?

Also

visit this website and input your ip address (if it doesn't auto enter itself) and click the ping button. post back your results

i'll call my isp later to, so i have to ask them what ports they are blocking and.. if they allow ICMP, i'll try, though i dont know what it all means or what it is


btw, you think formatting my whole pc would help? so all internet settings will well be restored to normal as they used to be (cause normally i can host just fine and never have any problems or what so ever)

god no. reformatting is a last result when all else fails and the saints have cried down from heaven that the end is near.

What is the manufacturer and model number for your modem and router (if you have a router)?

What type of service provider are you using - Cable, dsl, dialup?

What is the name of the service provider and in what country?

and lastly, post me a list of whats in your tcp/ip stack - instructions below:

i was doing this

Under the section titled THIS CONNECTION USES THE FOLLOWING ITEMS list what boxes are checked and what boxes are not (exactly as they appear).

at the general tab i was checking out the other tabs to and then i found it....at the advanced tab there was a box checked called firewall for internetsettings or something, turned it off, checked http://www.ping2me.com/cgi-bin/ping.pl again and my ip was pingable again ^^
