No beeps and I used a winxp home boot disk. I might need a winxp pro disk though since he said that is what was on there.

Why not try using a win 98 boot disk just to see if your hard drive is valid see if it is being recognized. You said you got a new computer and you were trying to upgrade. Has it ever booted? What os are you trying to upgrade from? You said a "new" computer? Or just new to you? seems to me that you have no valid os. Now that being said if the person you got the computer from loaded win xp in his machine and placed the hard drive into another machine your most likely result is what your experiencing. Just a thought. have you installed any other hard drive cdroms dvd players or other peripherals on the same ribbon cable? make sure that your hard drive is set to master and any other device is set to slave. You have the option of entering the bios when the machine first starts. When you successfully enter the bios see if the drive is being recognized. You should have the option of letting the computer seek out the drive or manually entering the parameters of the drive. If you are wondering why I would suggest using a win 98 boot disk? If the install went with fat 32 it should boot to windows 98 dos and you can check to see if the disk is valid or has any valid partitions. I hope you find success with your new computer. let me know how it goes. Your friend in tech. Da Missing Link.
