micros 12ds point of sale system

I've been asked to load software on a Micros 12ds point of sale system. Its your basic win95, touch screen. Now if we were to go to Micros's, they want $4000 for the software, documentation, and liscence. However, the system is open and other software can be loaded on it. Just trying to see if anyone out there is familiar with this and might be able to help.
