in the process of having a building built. We have a data closet which will be housing our switchs and act as our phone closet. There is going to be a shower right next to this closet and the only way into teh shower room is going through the data closet. Will the mositure from the shower effect teh equipment?

short answer = yes
moisture will ALWAYS effect electrical equipment...especially if this shower is regularly used...the steam will make that wiring closet EXTREMELY damp which will lead to corrosion of all the connectors in that closet as well as general degredation of the hardware....will this cause problems the first time that shower turns on? probably not...will the problems show up immediately over night? probably not....but eventually you'll have something go bad in that room and i'd bet my money that it would be because of the shower

your only two options are to either relocate the shower...or at least the door to the shower...or get a pretty good dehumidifier for that closet to maintain a proper humidity level in the closet

Moisture will destroy hard drives very quickly, the surface of the platter is metal oxide which will deteriorate rapidly.
