I ran that for about 30 - 40 seconds and I got the following:

soorena@Desktop:~$ glxgears -iacknowledgethatthistoolisnotabenchmark
6013 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1202.454 FPS
6351 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1270.085 FPS
7030 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1405.877 FPS
6768 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1353.479 FPS
7021 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1404.010 FPS
7050 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1409.828 FPS
5734 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1146.708 FPS
7130 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1425.871 FPS
7139 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1427.662 FPS
7143 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1428.566 FPS
7045 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1408.955 FPS
7145 frames in 5.0 seconds = 1428.888 FPS
X connection to :0.0 broken (explicit kill or server shutdown).
soorena@Desktop:~$

The FPS looks pretty high, I'm not sure if its supposed to be higher than that.

Thanks

When I enter that Beryl starts up and again non of the features work and the WIndow Manager is stuck on Metacity. Also non of the themes work either. And here is whats in the terminal:

soorena@Desktop:~$ beryl-manager

EDIT: I also tried changing the WIndow Manager by selecting Beryl and it didn't work, I ended up with Kwin instead.

would you mind uninstalling everything beryl related, then try again, but in the directions here and in Synaptic, COMPLETELY IGNORE ANYTHING THAT HAS TO DO WITH KDE.

Ubuntu uses Gnome as a desktop environment. KDE is a different desktop environment used on other disros, like Kubuntu. Things made for KDE-based distros (including instructions) usually will not work on Gnome-based distros.

Also, most (but not all) packages and programs that begin with the letter K are for KDE.

Should I install the Nvidia drivers again or just skip that part? Because I am 100% sure that the X.org will go bad again.

do not reinstall the NVIDIA driver unless the X server will not launch.

if something goes wrong with the X server (which should not happen... this usually only happens as a result of a kernel update), follow the directions on the Awesome NVIDIA Driver Guide to uninstall the driver. Then use the same guide to install the driver again.

Anyways I knew I wasn't supposed to install the drivers so I installed beryl alone and still the same thing. I remember before when I used the NVIDIA installation that came with the original Beryl guide Beryl worked fine and then when I restarted I got that error with X org. I thought that might help, I would use the other installation but I'm scared of the X org.

oh, so you are saying when you installed the NVIDIA driver that the NVIDIA beryl guide told you to install, beryl worked, but then the X server didn't?

Yes thats what I meant. And if there is a way to make both of them work that will be super duper.

Thanks

Alright, uninstall beryl again... -.- then:

Installing the other NVIDIA driver: (things enclosed in are comments :whistling:)

Open the terminal
sudo dpkg -reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
sudo apt-get --purge remove nvidia-glx
Press Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. Reopen the terminal
wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run
sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop At this point, the X server will shutdown, and you won't be able to view this page. Have another computer to view these instructions, or print them out, or save them to a text file and open using the command "nano (location-of-file)"
sudo sh ./NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run
sudo nvidia-xconfig --add-argb-glx-visuals
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start

Then reinstall beryl.

Good luck.

Right after I pressed ALT+CTRL+BACKSPACE the X server failed again. Somehow I knew this would happen. Any solutions? I can't continue the rest cause I can't download the Installation file.

Do you have onboard graphics?

Don't panic yet though, even if we can't get the X server working immediately, we can still do the rest of the installation without the X server. Hopefully then it will work.

No unfortunately I don't, My Mobo which is a Asus P4P800-SE doesn't have it. When I type in

wget http://us.download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/1.0-9755/NVIDIA-Linux-x86-1.0-9755-pkg1.run

it says 404 not found. Anyway I can download it onto a usb and use it?
