Trackpoint freezes/Safe mode not working

My trackpoint on my IBM G41 Thinkpad 2886 93U is suddenly freezing up. The End Program feature also just freezes when a progam stops functioning. The safe mode on my computer will not display either. IBM support is telling me I need to reinstall my OS but I am hoping there is some other solution than that. Any help or suggestions would be great.

I doubt if we can help you. The reason is that with laptops there are many features and therefore files and applications that are used only in a specific product. You can backup your data and then press F11 during bootup to reinstall the operating system.
