A dialogue box with Wtoolsa in the Title Bar keeps appearing on my computer. It states that
"This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down. If the problem persists, contact the program vendor".

I am then given the option to click on Close or Details. When I click details the following appears:

WTOOLSA caused an invalid page fault in
module KERNEL32.DLL at 0177:bff7671f.

Can anyone help me stop this from appearing?? It is very annoying having this appear every few seconds. <_<

Welcome Lillian <_<

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Reboot in safe mode (by tapping F8 at startup and select safe mode from the menu).

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items, then click fix checked.

Please note that ROS is REvenue Onlline Service for Ireland so I did not delete these!

That's okay, if you would have removed it, it would have simply been downloaded again the next time you visited that site.

You still have Gator installed. Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall Gator.

That should give you a clean log, but reboot and post a fresh log so we can be sure. <_<

Gator is not showing up under add / remove programs. Would it be listed as something else?

Could be under Claria or GAIN. If you don't find those, download and run Ad-aware:

Using Ad-aware: Open Ad-Aware and use the Check for updates now link. Download and accept the latest reference file. When finished click the Start button. When done scanning, the Abort button will change to Next. Click the Next button. Right-click in the Scanning Results window and click "Select all objects". Then click the "Next" button and confirm that you want to delete the selected entries.

When finished, Reboot your computer. Finally, reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log so we can look for any nasties that may have been missed. <_<

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.
