My friend just built his own computer and he loves to play BF2. He is really good at it too. But he has been experiencing lag after 1-2 minutes of gameplay on multiplayer. It just starts stuttering.
These are his system specs:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel Core 2 duo @ 2.4GHz
Evga nVidia nForce 680i SLI ATX motherboard
Evga nVidia GeForce 8800GTS(Superclocked)
2GB DDR2 @ 677MHz
500GB Hard Drive Raid 0
Creative Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
550-WATT ULTRA powersupply
NZXT Guardian gaming case
DVD-RW/R Drive
Blu-ray disc drive

His settings on BF2 are all set to High with 2x anti-aliasing.
He also uses Comcast High Speed Internet

Cheers :whistling:
Anton

Yes. Only online. On single player no stutters even when turned up to 8x aliasing.

Its just server lag. If it runs on single player as described. I have the same problem with certain servers.

Also, a lot of times I get "Connection to server has been lost" message, but this happens to every server I go to.

Doesn't 1.41 include all patches? :whistling:

His machine looks more than adequate to handle BF2.

Is it straight cable line or off a router?

Run DSLreports to see if his packets are where they should be. Refusing to connect is only caused by internet provider/ connection. You don't get that message from patches.
-I doubt it is patching-

1.) Under Game Options : Make sure sound, cable 256 connection... ect is set right. You could get serious issues from that.
2.) 1.41 patch straight up patches all previous, but has been found to be BUGGY. If I were you or him I would clean it out and start from scratch all patches one by one. Only way to be sure.
3.) Do other games play good online/ multiplayer?
4.) My personal favorite is last but not least -call the provider.

The message comes when the server recognizes serious issues with connection <Ping/ect>, then more often then not the server says no I do not want you here.

//T1 lan hookup or the wrong sound option will cause any computer to CTD or go banana's.//

Some things to consider....

His connection is wired, and he said that he can play all of his other games perfectly on multiplayer which includes Halo, Counter Strike, Battlefield Vietnam, and Dark Messiah.

I would remove the BF2 program, then reinstall and download patch 1.41 only. I had a problem about 2 weeks ago, went through the process i just described and it works perfectly. Also just to let you know some PC protection software are system hogs, and sometimes prohibit gameplay. One more thing, are you running the EA link.
