Dear All,

Here is my problem. i have a laptop tablet edition. hp compaq tc4200.
there is no inbuilt CD-ROM. there is external usb cd-rom with it.

so i tried to install fresh windows using clean format. i can boot CD from the drive. format the drive. copied all files. but when system restarts(as usuall) or when actual setup started in GUI mode.suddenly it gave me following error.

"setup was unable to retrieve the product identification of the system you are installing. The windows XP media may be damaged"

when i click OK (there was only button OK)...IT gave setup log files...it that the following was written

setup was unable to retrieve the product id becuase of the following error:
RegOpenKeyEx(system\setup\Pid) return error 2(2)

i tried using two different windows CD.
one : fujitsu-siemens winXP professional CD.

and another one: hp compaq WinXP CD with restore plus cd for validation
both cases there was same problem. what is the problem.

there is no CD with laptop. what to do.
please guide to solve this issue.
thanks in advance
