I installed a 128 pci graphics card into my bros machine and it went in as easy as pancakes to a child but when i came to install the drivers for the card useing the driver cd that i came with the card, it got about half way through installing the require drivers and then the computer just shut it self down. when it booted up again it said it had just recoverd from a serious error.

Does anyone have any ideas why?

It could be due to a driver conflict though I have never heard of it causing crashes. I would visit your card's manufactur's website and get the latest drives there eg ATI or Nvdia. Make sure to delete the drivers for your onboard graphics controller and maybe even disabling it from device manager before installing the drivers for the card.
