Hi !

I received a file through msn messenger and I accepted it, except it was malware. "Outerinfo" was installed on my computer. I removed it by uninstalling it with success. But I still have a lot of spam, problems with msn messenger and a few strange icons on my desktop: a "click here and fix errors" which I have never clicked on, a "net.exe" icon and "oo.exe". I tried to run panda and ad-aware but my computer was to slow to run them properly.

I would be very happy if someone could help me...

Hi again,
That was a small step we had to do before we get into the bigger stuff.
Before we begin this part of the fix, can you please save these instructions in Notepad to your desktop, or print them, for reference. Some of this fix will be done in Safe mode, where you will not be able to access this thread on the internet. If you have questions at any point, or are unsure of the instructions, feel free to post here and ask for clarification before proceeding.

1.

• First download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
  This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
  • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
• Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
• Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
• Under "Reports"
  • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
  • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

Close AVG Anti-Spyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only

• Please re-open HiJackThis and choose do a system scan only. Check the boxes next to ONLY the entries listed below:

• Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, including browsers, so that nothing other than HijackThis is open, then click Fix Checked. A box will pop up asking you if you wish to fix the selected items. Please choose YES. Once it has fixed them, please exit/close HijackThis.
  
  
• Reboot into Safe Mode by continuously tapping the F8 key as soon as the computer begins to boot. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
  
  
• Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):
  
  C:\Program Files\Ipwindows
  C:\PROGRA~1\FICHIE~1\{3426C~1
  C:\Program Files\webHancer

4.
Whilst still in Safe mode:

Open ATF Cleaner by Atribune. (We saved this eariler).
This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
If you use Firefox browserClick Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
If you use Opera browserClick Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.
Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.

• IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
• Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
• Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
• AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  Once the scan is complete do the following:
• If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
• Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
• Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
• Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan.

When you are finished, please reboot the computer as you normally would. Post a new HijackThis log here in a reply. Also, please let me know of any problems you may have encountered or questions you want to ask.

5.
Updating Java and Clearing Cache

• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Java Icon (coffee cup) in the Control Panel.
• It will say "Java Plug-in" under the icon.
  Please find the update button or tab in the Java Control Panel. Update your Java then reboot.
• If you are unable to update you can manually update by going here:
  • http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp
• After the reboot, go back into the Control Panel and double-click the Java Icon.
• Under Temporary Internet Files, click the Delete Files button.
• There are three options in the window to clear the cache - Leave ALL 3 CheckedDownloaded Applets
  Downloaded Applications
  Other Files
• Click OK on Delete Temporary Files Window
  Note: This deletes ALL the Downloaded Applications and Applets from the CACHE.
• Click OK to leave the Java Control Panel.

6.
Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan

• Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
• A new window will open...click the Check Now button
• Enter your Country
• Enter your State/Province
• Enter your e-mail address and click send
• Select either Home User or Company
• Click the big Scan Now button
• If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
• It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
• When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
• When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

7.
Open HijackThis, click Config, click Misc Tools
Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

8.
Post the uninstall list, The AVG Antispyware Report, the Panda Active Scan report, and a fresh Hijack This log. Dont for get to tell me how the computer is running now.

Hi!

My computer is running crazy slow. oo.exe on desktop disappeared, but "Click to find and fix errors" and net.exe are still there. I could not find the files:

But I found a file named "web publish" and "free phone" in my program files. I did not do anything with them. Also I could not find how to save the uninstall manager list from HJT (when I click on save list, HJT shuts down). And I still have popups.

Hi annegab,
This is a slow process, it might take a while, but we will have your computer clean soon.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Post the Vundofix log and a fresh hijack This log in your next reply. Then we will get rid of more. (Also, see if you can get the uninstall list now.)

Hi!

The Atribune website isn't working.... I can't get vundofix.exe. I'll try later tonight. Also I still can't get the uninstall list...when I click on "save this" an hourglass appears and HJT shuts down. Also I have a laptop that shares its internet connection with the computer we are cleaning through a linksys routeur and I wanted to know if this could be dangerous for my laptop.

Hi!

I ran vundofix.exe. At removal, it said it could not remove a certain file, then reboot, then scan again then found nothing. At reboot a window openned saying C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\qblulewd.dll could not be found. And good news: I got the uninstall list! I feel my computer is not as slow, but it might just be now. As of popups I haven't seen any but I guess they could appear any moment.

Reopen Vundofix,
[*]Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
[*]Right click the white box in the middle, and select add more files
[*]Add the following files:

• C:\WINDOWS\system32\phlbddnu.dll
• C:\WINDOWS\system32\upqrtonq.dll

[*]Click on the add files button
[*]Click the Scan for Vundo button.
[*]Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
[*]You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
[*]Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
[*]When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
[*]Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Last time I gave you the Vundofix instructions to run, they were wrong. These instructions are a little bit different, please follow these exactly as they are written

Delete your old version of Vundofix, and download this one:
VundoFix.exe

• Open VundoFix.exe.
• Right click the white box in the middle, and select add more files
• Add the following files:
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\phlbddnu.dll
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\qblulewd.dll
  • C:\WINDOWS\system32\upqrtonq.dll
• Click on the add files button
• Click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

This program is for XP and Windows 2000 onlyDouble-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.

Please do an online scan with Kaspersky WebScanner

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be promted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click Yes.

• The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
• Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT
  
• Now click on Scan Settings
• In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
  • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
  Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
  
  • Scan Options:
  Scan Archives
  Scan Mail Bases
• Click OK
• Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
• This will program will start and scan your system.
• The scan will take a while so be patient and let it run.
• Once the scan is complete it will display if your system has been infected.
  • Now click on the Save as Text button:
• Save the file to your desktop.
• Copy and paste that information in your next post.

First download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program

• Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
• Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG Anti-Spyware and update the definition files.
• On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
  • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
• Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
• Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
• Under "Reports"
  • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
  • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"

• Reboot your computer into SafeMode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
  IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG Anti-Spyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
• Lauch AVG Anti-Spyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
• Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
• AVG Anti-Spyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  Once the scan is complete do the following:
• If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
• Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
• Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
• Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the AVG Anti-Spyware report scan.

Please reply with a fresh Hijack This log, the Kapersky scan, the AVG report, and tell me how the computer is now running.
