Hello. I've been dealing with the trojan downloader virus (and perhaps some others), most of which Ive been able to remove (I think). My laptop is back and running, but I suspect I've got some stuff left, since I get the following message on my computer at startup error loading D0CE916B1, the specific module could not be found". In addition, when I try to download the google toolbar, it doesn't show up, even after what appears to be a successful download. I'd appreciate any advice. My hijack this log follows:

Hi there,

Please set your system to show all files.
Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View Tab. Under the Hidden files and folders heading, select Show hidden files and folders.
Uncheck: Hide file extensions for known file types
Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

* Start HijackThis, close all open windows leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following:

R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [qdtflpl] c:\windows\system32\qdtflpl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [dcbz97om] C:\Program Files\dcbz97om\dcbz97om.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [98D0CE0C16B1] rundll32.exe D0CE0C16B1,D0CE0C16B1

O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {9239E4EC-C9A6-11D2-A844-00C04F68D538} - (no file)

* Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them if still present:

c:\windows\system32\qdtflpl.exe
C:\Program Files\dcbz97om <== this folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\D0CE0C16B1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\D0CE0C16B1
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\msw <== this folder
C:\PROGRAM FILES\COMMON FILES\tsa <== this folder
C:\WINDOWS\system32\pruttct.exe
C:\Program Files\sf<== this folder

* Reboot.

Post back a fresh HijackThis log and I'll take another look.

Good!

Fix the next line in hijackthis again:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Tsl] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\tsa\tsl.exe

When Microsoft AntiSpyware gives you an 'alert' on this, allow it. Don't let Microsoft AntiSpyware block it, because that are the changes you made yourself with fixing in hijackthis.

To keep this clean in the future, I would suggest the following things:

Install Spywareblaster
SpywareBlaster doesn`t scan and clean for so-called spyware, but prevents it from being installed in the first place. It blocks the popular spyware ActiveX controls, and also prevents the installation of any of them via a webpage.

Let your antispywarescanner(s) scan frequently and don't forget to update before.

And I do suggest you perform an online virusscan once in a while. (housecall and/or Bitdefender). Because what one virusscanner can't find another one maybe can.
Also make sure that your virusscanner, the one that is installed on your system is always up to date!

Make sure your windows has the latest updates: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/

More info on how to prevent malware you can also find here (By Tony Klein)

Happy surfing again!
