It depends on your board as to whether they run in dual-channel mode or not.
But then again, the speed increase is marginal anyway so it will probably not be worth it.

As was mentioned it probably isnt worth the trouble...
Let me throw this at you....if you decide to upgrade later, then you have 2 512s....you might as well have only one slot taken up in case you want to buy another half gig later.
(assuming you only have 2 slots.)
