Every time I try to turn on my computer, nothing happens. I've tried plugging it in so many different ways, I'm 100% certain it's all plugged in and such. It's a emachine we've had for a while that we just use for typing up school reports and such. If anyone knows of any other ways to get it working, please help.

what happened to it recently? was it moved or anything additional installed ( software or hardware ) ? Since it's an e-machine my first guess is the power supply died and potentially took the motherboard with it.... Does it get any power at all? any lights on at all? does the monitor come on at all?

Nope. Nothing. No lights or anything.

We haven't installed anything recently. All we use it for is typing up school stuff.

WEll if the monitor wouldn't come on at all before and will now maybe the place you have it plugged in is the problem but again I would hazard a guess that the power supply on the computer is shot... Happens alot with emachines...

i had a problem once with a water cooler were it wouldn't turn on due to the OUTLET only supplying 52v and not 120v. so if the monitor now turns on it is either the PSU or the outlet you have it plugged into.

Maybe this could be related to your PSU, check everything is connected and working.

Usually with No Post problems I start from the power source and work my way in. Does it turn on when plugged directly into another wall? Does it plug into another outlet? If not then it is time to start removing parts. Start with Removing all external devices except for the power then see if it turns on. Next try unplugging all of the power to all of the internal components Hard Drive, CD-Rom, Floppy, ETC... Now Remove your expansion PCI and PCIE/AGP cards. Does it turn on? Now remove the Memory and reseat the big group of cables goes into the Mainboard. Does it turn on? Is there a little Light on the Mainboard? If not it is probably your Power Supply if there is it could be a Power Supply or Mainboard. To diagnose that you would want a Power Supply Tester they are about $15-$50 US. Since it's an eMachines the problem most likely is the power supply. If the brand name on the supply is Bestec it's almost certainly the case. One problem is the cheaply built supplies have no "crowbar" in them that shorts them out in overvoltage situations so that may damage the motherboard or other parts. I have a new machine that had a Bestec in it and I couldn't wait the change the PSU. I'm using it now.
