Recentely youtube and the sound stopped playing. It will play about a second of a video and then stop. I did everything I could think of to fix it. Dumped cookies, defrag, Cache, History, etc.

When I pull up an internet radio show it does not work but sometimes it will.

Bassically there is nothing on this computer. No documents, no pictures, etc. I use it strictly for a couple of message boards Youtube, talk radio, and a few news sites. Nothing is downloaded and kept.

I make sure all the microsoft downloads are kept up. I use AVG FRee, Zone Alarm FRee, spy bot, adaware, with no problems ever.

I did download the latest adobe flash player but no help.

As far as I know the settings are the same as when it came from the box.

It is hooked to high speed cable..thx for any help

Sometimes it will work until I go away from the computer for awhile and then niether work when I wake it up.

Hi uopm...

Sometimes, when a machine goes to sleep, it will stop some services. Next time you have no sound after waking the machine, click Start, then Run, type services.msc and click "Ok". Scroll down to Windows Audio...is it's status Started?

I had the same problem, but youtube would not play at all.

I downloaded and installed the first 4 downloads from here and it works now-

http://java.sun.com/...loads/index.jsp

I didn't use their download manager except on one and it didn't seem to install,
so I clicked on the name of the download and clicked run and it installed.

I went to their site and down loaded that bundle. I then shut it down and it is working now but it has done that before. Cross your fingers.

That didn't fix it either. I left it alone for about an hour then came back and youtube is no longer working.

If you get the same thing with any of those type sites, and have media player 11, open it, click options, file types and untick everything, click apply

I give up guys, Last night I did a total restore on the computer so it is set just like it came from the box but it is still doing the same thing.

If no ideas then I am off to the computer store tomorrow. THX

It might be that the sound card of your computer is faulty. Download and run BurnInTest (link in my signature). It's a hardware testing program that you can download free for 30 days. It gives only 15 minutes of test but it's worth trying. Insert CDs into the cd drives and a floppy disk to the flopy drive, if you have one.

ok-

try this-

set system restore point
right click 'my computer' click 'manage'
open 'services and applications'
Whatever is disabled set to manual
except universal plug and play
reboot computer
see if youtube will play
it should

Now you can leave it like it is or restore to the 'system restore' point you made.
Now go to 'system restore' and restore to the point you made.

I assume you still have all that java stuff on your computer.
Check c:/ Windows-the folder-'downloaded programs'
delete those javas with '?' or '!' markes on them
Uninstall all that Java-all of it from the control panel-add remove programs, then reinstall the java runtime 6u1 + net beans

Try youtube again. If it doesn't work then undo the restore.

Let us know the progress please.
It worked for me.

I would but my wife is a counselor in an elementary school. As I said the computer is tottally clean but what I consider clean and what this politically correct world gone mad considers clean are two totally different things. As far as I know the word Imus could be embedded in it somewhere.

No thanks
