System Re-boot Message

Note: The following situation developed just after we formatted the hard drive on November 11, 2006 +/-

When you re-boot (or Start) the computer, the system does not re-boot directly into Windows, but rather a message appears that says the following [not an exact quote, but pretty close],

Using the up & down arrows to highlight your choice, please select the Operating System to start,

MS Windows XP Professional or…

MS Windows XP Professional.

If not selected in 28 seconds, the highlighted selection will be chosen. For Troubleshooting and Advanced Start-up options, Press F8.

Coincident with the above, when a new e-mail message is started in Outlook Express, the following “symbol” appears in the body of the email message:


This symbol condition also started when the hard drive was formatted. The balance of the XP Professional operating system works perfectly except for the incompatibility with IE version 7, that was ultimately removed and we went back to version 6.0.
