Hello there, first I'd just like to say this site is great, helped me alot removing malware and other [bleep]. I just registered here to post this;
I have a problem with installing World of Warcraft. I pop in the first CD, everything goes allright.

But then it comes to "insert WoW disc 3". I insert it, it boots... it goes on, suddenly i just hear the booting sound over and over again... like "broooOOO"... then it stops, and sounds like it tries to boot over and over again, the installer is freezed and it won't go on. I have tried with 2 different copies of WoW and both stops in the middle of disc 3, so i am assuming its a problem on the PC, and not on the discs.

So i kindly ask you "pro's" for some input on this.

Thanks for your time.

Hello Hooftain and welcome to G2G!

Sounds like the drive is having problems reading the disk.

Do you have any CD/DVD drive you can try?

When you hear the drive keep on trying to spin up the disk and the installer freezes it means the drive is having problems reading the disk.

Have you tried changing the transfer mode of the drive to PIO only mode?

What exactly does that do? And can you explain to me how I do it?

Thanks.

Go into device manager > click the + sign to expand the tree on DVD/CD-ROM drives > double click your DVD drive and it should give you the location. See picture 1.

Picture 1:

The Location for the device will either be 0 or 1.

Close that window > double click Primary IDE Channel > change the transfer mode of the corresponding device.

Location 0 = device 0 and location 1 = device 1. See picture 2.

If the corresponding device is greyed out check the Secondary IDE Channel.

Sorry for the late reply, and thanks for tanking your time to help me.

I tried what you said, still doesn't work, I've also got a brand new computer and a new CD-drive, and it STILL doesn't work with any of the copies i've tried. Both stops in the middle of the 3rd disc at either the file "WMO.mpq" or "terrain.mpq". Now its really starting to get annoying.

Any more thoughts?

I've got 2 cables connected to my CD-drive. One from the PSU and one sata (?). Perhaps i forgot some, cause there is still more room for cables in there :whistling:

Oh and by the way, when I try to copy the files on the CD from D: and onto my hard drive I get this error: "Can't copy Installer Tome 3: computer error (CRC)"

Oh, and by the way. I just downloaded the WoW client from wow-europe.com and when I try to install it it says: "The file "Files\unconditional\user\Data\enGB\Interface\Cinematics\Logo_800.avi" in archive "D:\Installer Tome 3.mpq" could not be opened, because an error 104 occurred. If this problem persists, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (MPQFile::OpenFromArchive)"
