Hi all.I have just had my girlfriends little sis laptop thrust on me and told to help fix it.I think it may be infected with something or it could be just runnig really slow due to 3rd part software.I have run adaware,ccleaner,disk cleanup and disk defrag.I am posting my hi jackt= this log ithe hope that some1 can help me speed this thing up.Thanx in advance all.Regards Kieves.

You have a few issues here but don't worry we'll sort them out. If you have any questions about the fixes or anything please do not hesitate to ask at anytime.

We need to do something first before we go any further.


Please move your HijackThis to a safe place for backups, at the moment it is in your Temp folder.

• Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
• You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e)
• Then double click on C:
• Then right click and select New then Folder and name it HJT.
• Move HijackThis into this folder.
• After moving HJT post a fresh HijackThis log.

Just a little info on somethings you have on your PC

prismxl:
PrismXL is a program by New Boundary Technologies that was designed to make IT Administrators and PC Manufacturers lives easier, giving them a way to quickly deploy software. As far as I know, both eMachines and Gateway use this software to do their "MASS Rollouts". Fact is, it's great software, but once the PC is in your house, the usefulness of PrismXL is gone.

MyWebSearch:
My Web Search also known as the My Way Speedbar is the Internet Explorer toolbar part of the Fun Web Products suite of utilities such as Smiley Central, Cursor Mania, My Mail Stationary, My Mail Signature, PopSwatter, Popular Screensavers, and the My Way website portal. The toolbar allows easy access to search engine results and a 404 Error Redirector called My Total Search among other things to your browser. This is not to be confused with the IBIS Web Search toolbar.

Although none of these products claim to be spyware, they do slow your computer down. All of the products use cookies to track usage, although they claim not to use cookies or anything else to track personally identifiable information. That being said, I would still recommend uninstalling the toolbar and other Fun Web Products if you feel your computer runs better without them.

I will include these in my fixes unless your wish to keep them....if so just tell me.

• Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
• When finished, it shall produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply.

Download ATF Cleaner by Atribune to you Desktop from Here

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

Post your Uninstall list

• Open and Run HijackThis
• Click on Open Misc Tools Section button
• Then Click on Open Uninstall Manager
• On the right hand choose Save List
• Copy & Paste it in your next reply.

We need to Stop a Service

• Go Start then Run
• In the box Type services.msc click OK
• In the new window look down the list
• Find PrismXL service (New Boundary Technologies)
• Double click on it
• Stop the service
• And in Startup type select Disable
• Click OK

We need to show Hidden files.

How to Show Hidden Files

• Click Start.
• Open My Computer.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
• Select the View Tab.
• Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
• Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) and uncheck Hide Extensions for known file option.
• Click Yes to confirm.
• Click OK.

Now....

Run HijackThis and click on "Do a System Scan Only " put a check mark against this

How to Start in Safemode

1. Restart your computer.
2. Before the windows logo you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
5. Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode.

  • After reboot, double-click the SUPERAntispyware icon on your desktop.
  • Click Preferences. Click the Statistics/Logs tab.
  • Under Scanner Logs, double-click SUPERAntiSpyware Scan Log.
  • It will open in your default text editor (such as Notepad/Wordpad).
  • Please highlight everything in the notepad,by pressing Ctrl+A keys then right-click and choose copy

Your Java is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:

Download the latest version of Runtime Environment (JRE) 6 Update

• Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
• Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  
  Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  
  Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.

Re-Start your Computer

Please Run HijackThis and click on "Do a System Scan Only " put a check mark against this

O4 - Global Startup: Install Pending Files.LNK = C:\Program Files\SIFXINST\SIFXINST.EXE

Now close all browsers including this one and click on "Fix Checked"

When done close HijackThis.


NOTE: We will be starting in Safe mode next and this site will not be available so please could you Copy & Paste the next instructions into notepad.

Please start the PC in Safe Mode to perform the next fix.

How to Start in Safemode
1. Restart your computer.
2. Before the windows logo you should gently tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with a Windows XP Advanced Options menu.
3. Select the option for Safe Mode using the arrow keys.
4. Then press enter on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.
5. Do whatever tasks you require and when you are done reboot to boot back into normal mode.

After loading in Safe Mode

Use Windows Explorer to find and delete this Folder

Folder
C:\Program Files\SIFXINST


Now Start in Normal Mode

After loading in Normal mode

Please Clear & Reset System Restore Points

To Disable Restore Points

• Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
• Left click on "System Restore Tab"
• Check box beside "Turn Off System Restore"
• Left click on "Apply"
• Click Yes when you receive the prompt to the turn off System Restore.
• Close Window.

To Enable Restore Point

• Right-click "My Computer", and then left click "Properties".
• Left click on "System Restore Tab"
• Remove check mark from "Turn Off System Restore"
• Click on "Apply"

A new Restore point will be created.


We need to Re- Hide System files.

How to Re-Hide System Files

• Click Start.
• Open My Computer.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
• Select the View Tab.
• Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
• check the Hide protected operating system files (recommended)check Hide Extensions for known file option.
• Click Yes to confirm.
• Click OK.
