internet explorer is not working

Can anyone help? On desktop I click the e-Internet Explorer and the box keeps popping up...I've had several friends look and try to fix it but to no avail...Is there a simple step-by-step someone could walk me through? I,m not very computer savvy and love my new Vista...Firefox will let me on the internet but I really miss IE7...Thanks for the time
