I cannot get rid of this parasite :tazz: : HJT will not remove it in either normal or safe mode. I cannot unregister the dll in either mode. When I do manage to remove it (I don't know how) it returns with a different filename.
I have run on multiple occasions: AdAwareSE, CWShredder, SpyBot S&D, TrendONline Scan, HSRemove, Kill2Me, AdAware's VX2 cleaner, Stinger, LSP Fix.
I cannot run RegMon. And the PC reboots everytime the modem is accessed by the O\S (BSOD first) so the only way onto the Internet with it is via the LAN.
Some of the nastier parasites already removed (I think) are CWS, FunWeb, AbetterInternet, VX2/f, Transponder 'Ceres' variant, VirtualBouncer, WHenU, ElitumBar, Lop, ISearch and plenty more which I am pretty sure are gone.

HJT log follows (Safe Mode):

Hi VITAL and welcome to the Geeks to Go Forums.

Please print out or copy this page to Notepad. Make sure to work through the fixes in the exact order in which they are mentioned below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before proceeding with the fixes.

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your log.

1. Go to Geeks to Go
. Click on My Controls at the top right hand corner of the window. (make sure you have signed in first)
. In the left hand column, click "View Topics"
. If you click on the title of your post, you will be taken there

2. Also, while at the My Controls page, check the box to the right of your post and then scroll down.
.Where it says "unsubscribe" click the pull-down menu and select "immediate email notification"

3. Please provide me with a HJT log in Normal Mode.

Regards,

Trevuren

Hi VITAL,

First there are some questions that I need answered:

.O14 - IERESET.INF: START_PAGE_URL=http://www.ozonline.com.au This is the page to where IE defaults. Did you set this as your default page or is it a site that you trust?

O12 - Plugin for .tif: C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\PLUGINS\npqtplugin5.dll. Are you familiar with this plug-in?

---------------------------------------------
1. Make double sure to disable Spybot's Tea Timer for now, as it can interfere with the fixing of problems.

Open Spybot and and make sure you are in Advanced mode (check it in the 'Mode' menu). Go to the Tools section and click resident and then uncheck the box for Tea Timer.

Then, reboot

2. Copy and paste this code box text into a text editor such as Notepad.

Save this text as ResetAppInit.reg. Make sure the "Save as type:" is "All Files (*.*)" and save it to your desktop.

Double-click on ResetAppInit.reg. When it asks you to merge the information to the registry click Yes.

CODE

REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows]
"AppInit_DLLs"=""

3. REBOOT

4. Finally, run HijackThis and with all windows closed excepr for HJT, click SCAN, produce a LOG and POST it in this thread for review. Don't forget the answers to my questions.

Regards,

Trevuren

Thanks T,
The computer is not mine but here goes anyway:
Q1: Default homepage http://www.ozonline.com.au: I believe this has been set by AOL (Australia On Line) but it can be removed.
Q2: npqtplugin5.dll I think is a Quicktime Plug In, but this can also go if neccessary.

Looks like it has morphed again.
Sorry Trevuren but it looks like this one is a bast***. I have been trying for 3 days solid to remove this. I can usually sort these things out in a couple of hours (been doing it for more than 12 mths). This is actually the first time I have ever had to post to a forum for a solution. I would really like to get this sorted without a reformat. I have never seen anything so persistent. I don't even know what the infection is because the usual "Transponder" fixes won't work.
Thanks for your patience.

Hi VITAL,

Have you run an anti-trojan software.

If not: Try the 30-day free trial of Trojan Hunter.

I cannot delete the file h24m0ch1ef4.dll (although I am sure I can now because it isn't loaded)
Here are some other files in the system32 folder & there are plenty more :tazz:
blackbox.dll (not sure what this is so I included it)
gp84l3lq1.dll
f2l0lc3m1f.dll
enr0l19m1.dll
dnpo0173e.dll
d4j02e1mgh.dll
aza0lc3m1f.dll
6to4svc.dll
6zo4svc.dll
j4p00e7meh.dll
j6l4lg3q16.dll
j62q0gf5e62.dll

I rebooted after trying to delete without success. Also please note that there is nothing in the recycle bin & when I delete something it bypasses it.

HJT log follows:

This computer had Norton Internet Security on it. It found a few viruses and removed them, but then I started getting issues with the e-mail scanner whilst trying to fix this problem so I removed it. The Trend scan came up with nothing.
I have just now installed AVG and it appears the pc is still infected with a couple of viruses (don't know how because I thought I removed them all first up) Dropper.Small & Java/ByteVerify.
I really hope I have not been wasting your time :| and I sincerely appreciate all the effort you have put in for me.
Thanks Trev, I shall finish the scan and let you know how it fairs.

Thank you all for your help. The problem has been sorted:
It basically boiled down to a rather 'slack' clean-up done by myself :tazz:
Sorry if I wasted anybody's time.
The major problem was the Look2Me parasite infection (evident by the 020 -WinLogon Notify). The other Look2Me entrys usually seen in a HJT log were removed by myself prior to asking for assistance here, hence the reason we didn't pick up the cause of the infection.
All was sorted when the L2MFix was run as per the advice given here.
DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS FIX WITHOUT ADVICE FROM A TRUSTED HELPER.

Thanks again Trevuren & all the others behind the scenes ;)
