Charging Battery w/Universal Adapter

I left my charger at home and now i'm using a targus univeral ac adapter. my computer is running, but only when it is plugged in. my battery isn't charging and i need to be able to use the computer when it is not plugged in. is there anything i can do to get the dell battery to charge with a universal adapter?

i have a latitude D820.

Please Help!!

As it's a Dell laptop and Dell battery, I don't think you will have any success with a different charger. Dell is one of those companies which goes out of it's way to protect it's own brand name and it's own products by making third party rival products incompatible. Also bear in mind that an ac adaptor is not necessarily a battery charger. Special circuitry is required within the adaptor to allow it to function as a dual-purpose charger/power supply in one unit. The Dell unit has the ability to do both, the Targa unit probably does not so it's not a charger unless it expressly says so on the unit and/or in it's instructions.
