I just got a new mobo, Asus P5N-E SLI. I put everything together, it POSTS perfectly but I realized that my HD wasn't being detected, figured out it was because it's not even powering on. Something possessed me to uunplug the IDE cable then try turning it on again, and it spun. Does anyone know why my HD will only spin when the IDE cable is disconneected? I tried setting the jumpers to Cable-Select, Master, Slave, nothing works. Any suggestions are appriciated. Thanks.

The best thing to do is to start from scratch and work your way up. Make sure you have the right cables, make sure they are put in the right way, they do have tabs but sometimes it will still go in upside down. Is it plugged into the right place on the mobo.

The problem seems to be with your IDE connection, do you have another cable you could try?

Just go over the easy stuff first, you might find it.

I actually solved the problem 10 minutes after I posted this topic. The secondary IDE cable was bad, I think it was shorting out the IDE controller. But I got everything working now. Thanks for the reply!
