Suddenly the Dell is just giving me a green harddrive activity light on boot up and barely boots up.

I'm an advanced computer user and computer is lagging badly (green light for 10 minutes on boot up if it boots up at all), I've tried everything Normally I would put a new version of windows(XP) on the computer but that would be the third version and me and my wife and children would lose all of our settings , including email in outlook.

Lets see, the computer boots up, the green activity light is on in interminably, you can barely use the computer (not really). Its a Dell 8400 2 years old windows xp, 1gb ram. I ran defrag, asshampoo defrag, disk cleaner, bought pc optimzer pro for $30 but their key didn't work, ran Hijak this ,looked at msconfig, spent 5 hours? on it. Is it worth it ? No But I like to use the computer. Seems like the computer is hijacked or is google updater a memory hog? vsmon.exe takes alot of resources but thats Zone alarm protecting the computer. I think its a hijack, tried to post the hijack log but this site doesn;t want that. ANY IDEAS WOULD BE APPRECIATED. I'M ABOUT TO BUY THE UPGRADE TO VISTA. THIS IS GETTING TO THE POINT WHERE ITS NOT WORTH MORE TIME. BUT IS VISTA ANY GOOD , DON'T KNOW. ANYONE WHO CAN HELP I APPRECIATE IT -Ken

Heres the hijack log. YOUR GRACIOUS ASSISTANCE WOULD BE APPRECIATED

Frustration #185- I should have just restored it to an earlier date but of course one of the 9 programs I used eliminated the restore points ( and the last time I had this problem was 1-1 1/2 years ago).

I'm very close to reformatting the hardrive, but the wifes email outlook HAS to be preserved and of course I can't find the file where they are. This is the last ditch effort. I think its mal ware undetectable by any software (everythings been run Zone alarm, Ashampoo, hijack this, spysweeper)

If you guys/gals can figure it out I'll be real impressed and grateful.

Here's Hijack this log:
