Hello Roxy1234,

That scan didn't find the offending file, let's try Panda instead:

Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan

Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
A new window will open...click the Check Now button
Enter your Country
Enter your State/Province
Enter your e-mail address and click send
Select either Home User or Company
Click the big Scan Now button
If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

I have posted the Panda scan log below.

Somewhere during this journey, my Media Center has become sick -- only the music. Simply, if I access the music function through MCE, I get the following error message, "AUDIO ERROR: Specified Cast is Not Valid". This message occurs when I launch MCE on the computer itself or through my Linksys WMCE54AG Media Center Extender. I can play TV and video through MCE computer and MCE Linkysys and can hear the audio as well. I tried researching this error message on the net to see if I could correct it or understand its root cause. Too much computer jargon for me. Again, all was fine with MCE prior to the malware/trojans. Any assistance on this matter too would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Roxy1234,

To be completely honest with you, I'm not the foremost expert on media centers. My expertise is more focused on the malware side of the fence, for now let's get your computer clean then I would suggest making a new topic in the Windows XP™, 2000, 2003, NT forum about the newly formed problem you seem to be experiencing.

Your panda activescan log came back clean, along with the Trend Micro System Cleaner log. How is your computer currently running? (With the exception of the media player.)

Computer seems to be running fine. I will put the "infected" Atomiclog files in Quarantine in SpySweeper if everything else says the computer is clean. The computer sometimes does not shutdown properly, but it has been shutting down fine the last couple of times. If you feel everything is as clean as it can be and there is no more opportunity for harm to my computer or personal information, then I will consider the issue resolved. Thank you for all of your assistance. Please let me know where I shoudl direct my MCE issue to. Thanks.

Could I please see one more Hijackthis log before we make that call, since it's been a little while since I've seen the last one? As for the MCE issue, you can feel free to make a topic about it here, please mention that you were already cleared by a malware staff member, as well.

Hello Roxy1234,

Your log looks good, if that MCE issue was the only problem you had left you're good to go :whistling:

First, let's reset your hidden/system files and folders. System files are hidden for a reason and we don't want to have them openly available and susceptible to accidental deletion.

Click Start.
Open My Computer.
Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
Select the View tab.
Under the Hidden files and folders heading UNSELECT Show hidden files and folders.
CHECK the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
Click Yes to confirm.
Click OK.

Next, let's clean your restore points and set a new one:

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs from changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which are likely to be infected)1. Turn off System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
2. Restart your computer.

3. Turn ON System Restore.On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Now that you are clean, please follow these simple steps in order to keep your computer clean and secure:

Make your Internet Explorer more secure - This can be done by following these simple instructions:
- From within Internet Explorer click on the Tools menu and then click on Options.
- Click once on the Security tab
- Click once on the Internet icon so it becomes highlighted.
- Click once on the Custom Level button.
  - Change the Download signed ActiveX controls to Prompt
  - Change the Download unsigned ActiveX controls to Disable
  - Change the Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe to Disable
  - Change the Installation of desktop items to Prompt
  - Change the Launching programs and files in an IFRAME to Prompt
  - Change the Navigate sub-frames across different domains to Prompt
  - When all these settings have been made, click on the OK button.
  - If it prompts you as to whether or not you want to save the settings, press the Yes button.
- Next press the Apply button and then the OK to exit the Internet Properties page.
Use an AntiVirus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. This alone can save you a lot of trouble with malware in the future.

Update your AntiVirus Software - It is imperitive that you update your Antivirus software at least once a week (Even more if you wish). If you do not update your antivirus software then it will not be able to catch any of the new variants that may come out.
Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is succeptible to being hacked and taken over. I am very serious about this and see it happen almost every day with my clients. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.

Visit Microsoft's Windows Update Site Frequently - It is important that you visit http://www.windowsupdate.com regularly. This will ensure your computer has always the latest security updates available installed on your computer. If there are new updates to install, install them immediately, reboot your computer, and revisit the site until there are no more critical updates.
Install SpywareBlaster - SpywareBlaster will added a large list of programs and sites into your Internet Explorer settings that will protect you from running and downloading known malicious programs.

Update all these programs regularly - Make sure you update all the programs I have listed regularly. Without regular updates you WILL NOT be protected when new malicious programs are released.

Follow this list and your potential for being infected again will reduce dramatically.

here are some additional utilities that will enhance your safety

IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Winpatrol <= Download and install the free version of Winpatrol. a tutorial for this product is located here:
