On my wife's IBM Thinkpad running XP Professional, she gets the following error every time she boots the computer. None of the options apply (for example, for the last two options, there is no web page selected) and the background is a jpg picture but the same problem occurs if no picture is selected (just a standard background). Clicking the "Restore ..." button restores the desktop until the next boot.

Any ideas how to resolve this?

ugh....

Recently upgraded to SP2?

This is a problem and no one seems to know how to fix it, including Microsoft.

that's the bad news....

here's some things that may help

See if line 142 (right hand side) helps:

Either update or roll back, your video drivers.

You could uninstall sp2

hey if u still have this problem it happened to me too its from the desktop.exe virus

ull probally find the folder

C:\WINDOWS\isrvs

Download KillBox http://www.bleepingc...are/KillBox.zip

check for these files

C:\WINDOWS\system32\Tibs3.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\drct16.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vdmt16.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlow.sys
C:\WINDOWS\system32\WaiZ.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\w32tm.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mszx23.exe
C:\WINDOWS\webx1.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\sharamon.dll

and delete them

easiest thing to do is run virus scan n if u cant delete stuff

just go into safe mode and clean up the comp fully delete the folder and you will have lots of other virus files in your various temp folders make sure you get everything too

download a program called

cleanUP and run that after youve done everything to make sure all set up files are gone

also check if u got vdmt16.sys
