Hi people

A group of us want to play Warcraft 3 Frozen throne(War 3 TFT). I llive in Canada and they are in South Africa. We all have high speed internet connections. We can play via Hamachi but found that sometimes the lag is real bad. When we ping via Hamachi when the lag is bad we get every 3rd ping request gets a time out.

So in an attempt to reduce lag we created our own VPN. This is working fine as we can connect the VPN as well as see each others machine and ping each other and transfer files. When we play War3 TFT we can see the games hosted but can not connect to the games. When I host they can see my games and also cannot join.

So we have the same versions of War3 TFT, we can play in Hamachi. The error says:

"Unable to join specified game. Please try again or select a different game."

Any ideas. The VPN is setup via the router on one side(host) and the client joins via XP Vpn connection.

Thanks in advance

Does Warcraft 3 use ports that may not be allowed public access through the router?

Firewalls?

Conspiracy?

To be a host in warcraft III you have to open some ports on your router. I cant remmeber exactly what ports. Try http://portforward.com/ it should help. It'll guide you on how to open your ports. Including the ports that need to be open.

Thank you people

We have opened the ports listed and allowed both incoming and outgoing TCP and UDP on those ports. I have even tried dropping both the hard and soft firewalls on both sides.

We have come across Lancraft but have similar problems. All can see but none can join. And very weird that everything works perfectly under Hamachi (besides the lag).

Will try more, maybe it has to do with the fact we are running v1.21. We can Lan and hamachi but not with either VPN or with Lancraft. Mayeb the program has a way to check if the IP's being used are in a similar group. Just a thought.
