Search Miracle Problems (RESOLVED)

I have tried removing Search Miracle and have gone through Ad Aware, Spybot, Hijack This. I have tried deleting the 04-HKLM\..\run: [etbrun] c:windows\system32\leiteugr32.exe with no luck. IT keeps coming back.

Hi Kickerj,

You have several problems listed on your HJT.

As i don't know what you have already done in an attempt to get rid of them we will follow a sequence.

You are running HijackThis from its zipped archive; please create a new folder for it (for example C\HJT) and unzip the program into it. It is very important you do this before anything else! Run HJT from that folder, that way it can create backups should we need them.

Please print out these instructions to make it easy to follow and to have access to them when you have to reboot your pc. Please read through them prior to commencing to do anything and if there is anything that you are unsure of, or do not understand, please contact me first for assistance.

Press Control-Alt-Del to enter the Task Manager.

Click on the Processes tab and end the following processes:

C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
Exit the Task Manager when finished.

Download Pocket killbox from the link below, unzip and save it to your desktop, but do not run it yet.

I would like you to carry out the following free on-line virus scan and follow their instructions on removal of anything that it may find.

Panda Active Scan

Next please download the following two programs. Install them and update them both. Then run each one and have them fix anything that they may find.

Open up HJT and rescan and Place a check against each of the following, making sure you get them all and not any others by mistake. Some of them might not be there as they will have been removed in previous stages of the sequence. This is normal so do not be alarmed

Cleanup

Reboot into SAFE MODE by tapping the F8 key whilst PC starts up.

Set PC to show hidden files (Click link below if you do not know how)

Show hidden files

Using Windows Explorer locate and delete the following files/folders.

C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
C:\windows\system32\elitehkg32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\Downloaded Program Files\SbCIe028.dll

If you were unable to find any of the files then please follow these additional instructions:

Run pocket killbox, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, copy and paste them from below, one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot.

Now use the Cleanup program to clear out temp files, junk etc.

Reboot normally and rescan with HJT and post the log in this thread

I have done all of the steps you have asked in the previous post. However, upon reboot/startup I am still getting the same 5 or 6 Search Miracle pop-ups everytime I reboot.

Hi Kickerj,

Here's the next part of the fightback.

Press Ctrl/Alt/Delete and to enter task manager, scroll down the list and highlight the item below.

svchost.exe if present.

Carry out a free online virus scan from the following link, fill out the registration form, register your name, for company type anything you want and your email address. Aloow it to fix anything it may find.

Next download the following free 14 day trial.

Ewido

Install it and then double click on the new icon for the program. You can't miss it, it's a big yellow E. It will ask you to upgrade the database. Follow the instructions.
Once it is ready click on the Scanner button, Select C drive if you have more than one and then start.

grab a cup of coffee, sandwiches, book and sleeping bag as this will take some time. Once the first problem is detected ensure you tick the box for all (bottom left) and allow it to continue.

At the end of the scan, it may ask if you would like to delete anything found in archive or zipped files, OK that request, then click on save report. SAVE to the default location, it will then generate a text file. Copy that to post in this thread.

Carry out another HJT scan and post the log back here together with the ewido log, so we can sort out any remnants

Hi Josh,

Things are starting to look better now.

Download this tool: LQfix.zip
Unzip it to your Desktop.
Don't use it yet!

IMPORTANT! Reboot the computer into Safe Mode (tap F8 during bootup, use arrow keys to select Safe Mode, then hit 'enter').

Doubleclick LQfix.bat that you saved on your desktop before.
A doswindow will open and close again, that is normal.

Reboot into normal mode and scan with HijackThis.

Check the following entries if present.

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitemij32.exe


You also have an optional remove

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Office.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\OSA.EXE <---known resourse hog, all componants of office can be selected as normal from Start/programmes menu.

Once you have decided on the optional ensure no windows open and select FIX CHECKED.

Reboot into safe mode and set PC to show hidden files.

Using windows explorer locate the following file and delete it.

C:\windows\system32\elitemij32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe

Run pocket killbox, and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot.

Copy and paste them from below, one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.

C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
C:\windows\system32\elitehkg32.exe


The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes.

Let the system reboot Normally.

Rescan with HJT. Post the new log as a reply to this thread.

Hi Josh,

From your log, I see nothing in the ways of trojans, nor any evil entities attempting to possess your computer, except for Windows but it's too late for that one. :tazz:

Congratulations your log now appears to be clean. ;)

Here are some tips, to reduce the potential for spyware infection in the future, I strongly recommend installing the following applications:

Detect and Remove Programs:
  • How to use Ad-Aware to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Ad-Aware.
  • How to use Spybot to remove Spyware <= If you suspect that you have spyware installed on your computer, here are instructions on how to download, install and then use Spybot. Similar to Ad-Aware, I strongly recommend both to catch most spyware.
Prevention Programs:
  • Spywareblaster <= SpywareBlaster will prevent spyware from being installed.
  • Spywareguard <= SpywareGuard offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • IE/Spyad <= IE/Spyad places over 4000 websites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (Cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • MVPS Hosts file <= The MVPS Hosts file replaces your current HOSTS file with one containing well know ad sites etc. Basically, this prevents your coputer from connecting to those sites by redirecting them to 127.0.0.1 which is your local computer
  • Google Toolbar <= Get the free google toolbar to help stop pop up windows.
Other necessary Programs:
  • AntiVirus Program<= An AntiVirus program is a must! Whether it is a free version like AVG or Anti-Vir, or a shareware version like Norton or Kapersky, this is a must have.
  • Firewall<= A firewall is definatley a must have. Two good free versions are Sygate and ZoneLabs.
  • More Secure Browser<= Internet Explorer is not the most secure and best browser. There are safer and better alternatives available. I recommend Firefox, however Opera and SlimBrowsers are good as well.
