Hey im looking to upgrade from my 800xgto. And i was wondering what really matters more i mean we look at Core clock, Memory clock,and the Pipelines. So what is really the best thing to look at when comparing. Here are the two cards im looking at. Or show me anything else around 150. Thanks.

All of these things are important. I, personally, check benchmark tests from websites such as Tom's Hardware. Both of those cards you have picked are very good for their price. Have a look at this sticky: Best video card for gaming, april 2007 quick reference

The ATI card is cheaper and for the majority of the time better as well. ATI proved to us how the more pipelines you have doesn't always make a card better.

ATI has different drivers for their different series of cards while Nvidia has one driver for nearly all their cards. I wouldn't say that either one of them is "better" than the other. Both Nvidia and ATI has software that allows you to overclock.

James, I'm guessing you're an ATI guy. I would go for the NVIDIA card, not only because I'm a NVIDIA guy, but also because it has slightly better specs and much better reviews (84% 5-star compared to the ATI's 63% 5-star... 0% 1-star compared to the ATI's 13% 1-star)

The cooling is dependant on the particular company the manufactures the card e.g.- XFX. ASUS, EVGA.

I wouldn't recommend it. The mainstream geforce 8 cards were below expectations. You will get better performance from the 7900 GS.

That is just how it worked out (and usually does). The 7900, which is high end gaming, out performs the "mainstream" 8600. The 8600 costs a bit more but that is because of its DirectX10 support. I am told that the 8600 doesn't even have the power to "handle" DX10 even though it is supported. While it does outperform the 7600 it doesn't outdo the entire geforce 7 series.

Edit: To break it down a little better:

Cards ending in 200-500 = Low End
Cards ending in 600-700 = Mainstream
Cards ending in 800-900 = High End

If you want DX10, at least go with the 8800GTS... anything less you will just be disappointed.
