i would like to restore my computer to a certain date.i know that i start by tapping on the F8 key.then select 'command prompt only' then type in 'c:\>scanreg \restore but what do i do after this and is this how you do it? i'm running windows 98se. ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT

thanks unfortunatly it didnt help.so i'll give you the real problem.
its outlook express 6.i can still send and receive email its just that i cant see them.
in my inbox, up the top it says who its from,subject and when it was received,on the bottom half(i think its called viewing pane) i get nothing except the arrow and hourglass,even if i double click to get a seperate page for a email i still get nothing except the arrow and hourglass.even the icon on my desktop has gone.PLEASE YOU,VE GOT TO HELP ME.

thanx again darl, but it didnt work.it said the command line parameters are not valid the following parameters were not reconized "scannow".

oh boy! did i need updating. but im saddened to say it didnt help my problem.
do you think i should reinstall windows,you know,wipe the slate clean.i really dont have anything important on this computer anyway?

A bigger problem may be your antivirus software. It appears you have both Norton and McAffee installed. This can cause some serious conflicts. Uninstall one of them, this is a case of two not being better than one.

Also, after installing the updates you may want to try and repair Internet Explorer again.

okay,i did it all but couldnt repair internet explorer

Try using Internet Explorer's repair option:

Go to:
Start>> Settings>> Control Panel. Double click on Add/Remove programs.
Scroll down until you find Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Highlight it and click the Add/Remove button.
Note: This will not attempt to remove Internet Explorer.

From the resulting menu; select "Repair Internet Explorer".
If the above repair does not work:

Use the Find option on your Start menu to find the file "msimn.exe" and make a note of the full pathname. You'll probably find that it's something like "C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe". If it isn't there, make a note of where it actually is, and alter it in the details I've given you below.
Next, make sure OE isn't running, click Start>> Run>> and then enter the following:

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /reg
Note: You need to make sure you put the quotes round the first part, and make sure there's a space before the /reg.

This tells Outlook Express to reset its registry entries, which should allow you to set OE as your default mail client in IE's Program options.

okay i tried all of the above but yet again it didnt work, however i did notice in the outlook express folder it had something called oemig50 when i clicked on it ,it said the OEMIG50.Exe file is linked to missing export ADVAPl32.DLL:RegOverridePredeKey. then i clicked ok and it said

A device attatched to the system is not functioning
could this be related to my problem in anyway or does it have nothing to do with it?
