I am running Win XP sp2
1.85 Mghz AMD Athlon XP
128 KB Primary memory cache
512 KB RAM (Dimm4)
ARTEX WSM-52X (CD-ROM drive)(CD writer)
Sys Mod: Via Tech Inc. KT-400-8235

I have tried Nero Fast Burn and Nero inCD
Picasa2
MS that came with XP Pro

When I attempt to burn something to a CD, from the Nero it appears to start
the CD burner drive activity light comes on and CPU light burns steady and
and I cannot get them to shut off, no burn occurs. I have to do a shut down
to get black CD out. I do not hear the CD writer running, like I would normally.

From Picasa all appears to work, but northing is writen to CD, that is all
activity in Picasa says it worked, but the CD writer itself does not come on.

MS burn program just says it cant write to disc that it may be bad (I have
tried 4-5 new disc)

My question. Obviously the computer is recognizing the physical burner, since
I can download programs. But is it recognizing it in the burn mode. Or is
there a conflict somewhere that is causing the hangup?

I hope I have been clear, but will answer any questions. And appreciate any
guidance.

Rick,
Is there a way to check it, without just replacing it?
