Im the sort of person who formats a lot, so I decided to create a partition for data I want to keep.
I did this by creating a partition when installing XP leaving the rest unpartitioned, then partioned it using disk manager.

At first it seemed fine untill I stared installing software. I get an error saying 'the installshield engine (ikernal) could not be installed.Ikernal.exe could not be copied to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Engine\6\Intel 32.
Make sure you have the appropriate privileges to copy files to this folder. (0x20)', when trying to install programs such as my dvd player.

Also something keeps popping up saying that I need to insert the Windows disk to restore files to ensure system stability, or words to that effect.

Lastly internet explorer seems sluggish when scrolling.

Im novice so I dont know how these things can be connected to me partitioning my drive, but they have never happened before although I have formatted and set up with the same version of XP and the same software half dozen times without partitioning.

Please help
