I am currently helping a friend that has been bombarded by viruses. We cleared up a lot of crud, but there are still some weird plugins and for example in the add/remove programs list there is something security toolbar 7.0. Any help will be greatly appreciated. If everything in this log is clean thanks a lot, just please post a reply. thx again. Also at one point Avast! Home Edition 4.7.1001 said that a Trojan is running or something like that, but before we could read the rest the message suddenly disappeared. Upon running a full scan in through mode, it came up with a clean bill of health. What is really confusing, though, is the fact that we did complete the scan, yet Avast! still says that we haven't done a single scan. Also we have already repeatedly scanned with Spybot - Search and Destroy 1.4 and Ad - Aware 2007 7.0.1.3. All help is appreciated.

Now close all windows other than HiJackThis, then click Fix Checked. Close HiJackThis.

Reboot into safe mode.

Restart your computer and as soon as it starts booting up again continuously tap F8. A menu should come up where you will be given the option to enter Safe Mode.
Please enter Safe Mode by using the Arrow Keys and then hit Enter.

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and remove the following (if present):

My Web Search
My Web Search (Smiley Central or FWP product as applicable)
My Way Speedbar (Smiley Central or other FWP as applicable)
My Way Speedbar (AOL and Yahoo Messengers) (beta users only)
My Way Speedbar (Outlook, Outlook Express, and IncrediMail)
Search Assistant - My Way

Please note any other programs that you dont recognize in that list in your next response

Using Windows Explorer (to get there right-click your Start button and go to "Explore"), please delete these folders (if present):

FunWebProducts
MyWebSearch

After that, Reboot.

2)Please go HERE to run Panda's ActiveScan

• Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button
• A new window will open...click the Check Now button
• Enter your Country
• Enter your State/Province
• Enter your e-mail address and click send
• Select either Home User or Company
• Click the big Scan Now button
• If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
• It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a couple of minutes)
• When download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan
• When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save Report and save it to a convenient location. Post the contents of the ActiveScan report

Please post back the ActiveScan Log and a fresh HJT Log

Thanks a lot for your assistance. I have just emailed these instructions to my friend. I have done all the work on his computer for him so far, but he may just feel up to following the directions, as I have told him how to use HJT. If the feels uncomfortable in competing the instructions, I told him that I can help him on Monday. Please excuse me if I so not post the results until Monday. I am extremely sorry, but my friend didn't feel comfortable in completing the cleanup process himself. He is currently in a family emergency, and is not at home.
