Hey Folks,

We need to upgrade one of our pc's cos lately its become somewhat outdated. Its primary purpose is internet use (so it's on most of the time) although my girlfriend plays some games on it as well (nothing too cpu intensive, mind - Sims 2 and the like)
We we're looking at these two upgrade options anyway on Komplett:

1, Intel Core 2 Duo E4300 1.8GHz Socket LGA775, 2MB, BOXED w/fan
ABIT IL9 PRO, Intel 945P, Socket-775, ATX, SATAII, DDR2, GbLAN, PCI-Ex16
Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2 2048MB Kit w/two matched Value Select 1024MB
Price E240

2, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2.4GHz Socket AM2 1MB, BOXED w/fan
MSI K9N NEO-F, nForce 550, Socket-AM2, SATAII, DDR2, GbLAN, ATX, PCI-Ex16
Corsair Value S. PC5300 DDR2 2048MB Kit w/two matched Value Select 1024MB
Price E210

Any advice on which of these would be best? your help is appreciated! If there is a better alternative at a similar price point that i missed, do i actually need dual core? oh and if you could recommend a budget P.S.U to go with these (presuming our current 350 watt one is too low)

Thanks

P.S the intel dealio has 3 years warranty, the athlon only 1

What are you working with already? I highly advise against "value" RAM. They fail or die much more often than other RAM. What is Komplett?

Komplett is an irish computer hardware site (www.komplett.ie) We currently have a celeron 2.6 ghz, L2 cache is 128kb, 1 gig (2 x 512mb) 2700 RAM. ASustek p4g3-fsc mobo, 9800 all in wonder. Very poor by todays standards! point noted on the ram, thanks!

I would recommend the core 2 duo e4300 over the 4600+. I think Abit boards are a bit better than MSI too.
