I tried to get help with this a week or two ago but didn't receive any.
I'm running XP Pro w/SP2 in a desktop.
No viruses or malware/spyware.
I went to upgrade iTunes to version 7.2 and received a pop up stating that I needed Quicktime. The installer rolled back the update.
I tried to update Quicktime and got nowhere so I removed it thinking I could download it and proceed from there. Nope.
Tried again to install iTunes 7.2 and received an error 2203 = installer could not complete the task.
I'm really a newbie and don't have a clue as to how to fix this.
Hope somebody can help.
Thanks.

There is something wrong with your permissions. Are you the administrator on this computer?

Create a new user in control panel under user accounts.

Try installing the program from that user.

Thanks for trying to help.
Ye, I'm the admin.
And I did set up another user account as an admin.
I logged off the old account and logged in with the new account.
I went to Port 25 website and tried to download a plugin for windows media player and firefox.
Same problem.
Windows installer has encountered a problem. Error 2203.
Now I'm really lost.
I hope somebody can help. I'm not tech savvy enough to know where to go next.
Thanks.

It is getting a error message. That translates to Database: [2]. Cannot open database file. System error [3].

Are you able to install any other programs?

Tuxmaster,
Thanks so much for your help.
I was able to install other programs, including Media Monkey, but not Quicktime.
I was about to uninstall iTunes but figured I'd see if I could install updates from MS.
One of the updates I found was for MS Installer which apparently fixed the problem.

Edit: My other programs can be downloaded and installed, such as the Firefox/WMP pkugin, with no problem.
I can also use iTunes but can't update it. I get the following: Runtime Error C:\Program Files\iTunes\iTunes.exe This application has requested the Runtime to terminate in an unusual way.

Unless somebody has any suggestions I'm going to have to dump iTunes and start from scratch.

Again, thanks.
J.
