fatal exception 06

My friend is running windows 98 and recently tried to upgrade it to xp. Before he could run the installation he said he had to run an upgrade. He did and tried to intsall it and aparently had some troubles. Xp was never fully installed as it doesnt work but 98 is still on the computer. Now he is recieveing a blue screen error when he tries to load a webpage after initiating netzero that says "A fatal exception 06 has occured at 016F:00004D7E. The current application will be terminated." The computer then goes to a black screen and has to be turned off. Ant help would be great.

tell him to go to add/remove control panel and remove kb891711

kb891711 wasnt listed in the add/remove program list. The closest to it was a kb870669 but when trying to uninstall there was an error message that said : "There was an error trying to uninstall this patch."
