I have recently bought a new laptop with Windows Vista. My old laptop has Windows XP. What is the fastest way to transfer files only from the XP to Vista without network connection? Can I use a USB cable to connect the 2 laptops?

I would buy a USB Flash drive and use that to transfer the data over. You can get 2GB flash drives for about $30 or so now, depending on deals. Going this route would also let you use the USB Flash drive to transfer files to friends/family/whoever else's computer with ease, and also allow you to use the Flash Drive as a type of backup device for important information you have stored on your computer.
