I followed all the steps, downloaded all the softwares, and did all the scans. Yahoo Anti-Spy says its darksma and then gives its location in the registry, but when i remove it, it just comes back. Same goes with all the other softwares they all recogonize threats and remove but in a matter of minutes there back. I am constantly getting pop ups and spam, so much that my computer will completly freeze up. Please Help. Hear are copies of every scan i was supposed to save.

  • Do not mouse click in the combofix window while it is running - this may cause your system to hang/crash.
  • Disable Script Blocking if you have NAV installed as it will interfere with the normal working of this tool.

Ok so i did what you told me to and deleted those two files. After my reboot i ran all three spywares that i have and removed everything that they found. Then i had to reboot my computer, when i did that it prompted me to the same menu that i went to, to load my computer in safe mode. In order to get it to load i had to highlight and select load with last known working setup ( or something like that) i did and everything seems fine. I have been surfing the web for about twenty min and no pop-ups have came up. My PC seems to be working much better. Also my spyware scans are coming up negative. Here is a copy of the combo fix log and a very fresh HJT. THanks for your help so far it is very appreciated.

There's still a little to do.

1) Run HJT and click on Open the Misc Tools section.
Click on delete a file on reboot...
Copy and paste the following into the "File name:" text box and then click Open:

c:\windows\system32\ssqppqn.dll

When you are asked "Do you want to restart your computer now?", click OK.

Your PC MUST reboot to delete the file!

2) Run HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: c:\windows\system32\ssqppqn.dll

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HJT and click on Fix checked

3) Remove any/all of the following files/folders that you can find:

Files

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dn7c1151c4.dat
C:\WINDOWS\efcyww.dll
C:\WINDOWS\cbxvsp.dll
C:\WINDOWS\khgedb.dll
C:\WINDOWS\khggfe.dll
C:\WINDOWS\effecc.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\vtutt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxsrss.dll

As an example:
To delete C:\WINDOWS\system32\filetogo.bye
Double click the My Computer icon on your Desktop.
Double click on Local Disc (C:)
Double click on the Windows folder,
Double click on the System 32 folder,
Right click on filetogo.bye and from the menu that appears, click on 'Delete'

You may need to set Windows to show All Hidden Files and Folders.
Instructions can be found here.
** These files are hidden to stop you accidentally removing something important.
It is advisable to hide them again after fixing your computer. **

Reboot the PC and let me have a fresh HJT log and a description of how the PC is behaving.

Alright, mission accomplished! All of the files have been deleted. Only problems i have had are one, when i rebooted the pc prompted me to a blue screen saying that my computer has faulty software. The whole screen was covered in text and i did not write it down but if it happens again i will copy it down. The second problem i had was once the computer rebooted a box came up saying my computer recovered from a serious error. I sent the error report and then a website popped up. I have posted the message on this reply. Other then those two things my computer has been running a hundred times better i have yet to get a pop up. Thanks again! Here is the error message and a fresh HJT.

Follow these steps to solve the problem with a device driver

You received this message because a device driver installed on your computer caused the Windows operating system to stop unexpectedly. This type of error is referred to as a "stop error." A stop error requires you to restart your computer.

Troubleshooting is available that might help you solve the problem

Troubleshooting

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Depending on which situation is applicable to you, do one of the following:

If this problem occurred after you installed a new hardware device on your computer, the problem might be caused by the device driver. Use the Dell Driver Reset Tool or uninstall the driver.

How do I disable or uninstall a device driver?

Note: This may cause hardware devices to stop functioning.

Click Start, and then click Control Panel. If you are using Classic View, click Switch to Category View.
Click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System.
Click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
Click the plus sign (+) next to the faulting device. You should now see the device listed.
Right-click the device, and then click Disable or Uninstall.
Alternate Steps

Click Start, and then click Search.
Choose All files and folders, and then type the driver name in the All or part of the file name field.
Click Search.
When the file appears in the results, right-click the file and click Rename.
Rename the file (for example, filename.old). Remember the file name so you can enable it later if you need to.
If this problem occurred after you installed new software, the software might have installed a driver that caused the problem. Try uninstalling the software.

How do I uninstall a program in Windows XP?

Click Start, click Control Panel, and then click Add or Remove Programs.
Click Change or Remove Programs, and then click the program you want to change or remove.
Click the appropriate button:
To change a program, click Change/Remove or Change.
To remove a program, click Change/Remove or Remove.

Warning

When you click Change or Remove, some programs may be removed without prompting you further.

Note: Add or Remove Programs will only remove programs that were written for Windows operating systems. For other programs, check the documentation that came with the program to see if other files (such as .ini files) should be removed.

If you don't know the specific driver or software, try performing a System Restore.
Go online and check for updated drivers on the Microsoft Update website.
For information about your support options, go online to the Support.Dell.Com website.

Ah, the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death! Occasionally Windows gets upset by something that you or some software has done, and you've seen the results. As long as further reboots don't give the same result, I wouldn't concern yourself.
The log looks OK except for one last line to fix with HJT.

Run HijackThis as you did to generate a log, but this time click on 'Do a system scan only'.
Place a checkmark in the boxes to the left of the following entries, by clicking on them:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp...//www.yahoo.com

CLOSE ALL OPEN WINDOWS AND BROWSERS - EXCEPT HJT and click on Fix checked

If you click on the above link, you end up at http://www.yahoo.com/ - it's what's known as a redirector. You might as well use the web address you get to rather than go around the houses.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Scarily, i'd say that was that, and you should find something more worthwhile to do with your time from now on - good ain't it!
I want you to run your PC as normal for a few days and when you are happy that everything is fine, do the following:
Update your anti-virus program,
Disable System Restore,
Boot into Safe Mode,
Scan your computer for viruses.
When you get the all clear, reboot into Normal Mode.
Re-enable System Restore,
Create a Restore Point.
This will give a clean Restore Point should you need it in the future.
A tutorial for System Restore is available here.
The reason for waiting is that if removing the malware has caused a problem, which it occasionally does, you can put your PC back to how it was before the fix. This will re-install the malware, but an infected PC is better than an expensive paperweight!
Some bedtime reading: This is a very good tutorial about keeping your computer safe and secure on the internet.
PLEASE NOTE: Given the BSOD you suffered, I want you to reboot a couple of times before you flush System Restore. Once the Restore Points are gone, you don't get them back. They could be important if your PC has got issues caused by the malware removal and you really don't want to be reformatting if you can help it!
