Can't transfer tracks from my MP3 player to PC.

Whenever I try copying all my music from my MP3 player to my documents I either get an error message saying that the folder name I have specified has already been used for another folder or some such or the 'my music' folder just stops responding. At first it seemed that my machine was having problems reading from the MP3 player but now I think it has something to do with the fact that all of my folders are seemingly stuck in read-only mode. No matter how many times I try unchecking that box on any of my folders it just keeps reverting back to read-only.

Why is this and what solutions are there?
