I don't know if this belongs on this board or the Hijack This board.

Teen daughter was complaining that her computer was very "messed up" and confessed her virus definitions were hopelessly out of date, she hadn't run a scan in forever and she had downloaded something and had major problems since then; about five days ago. Whatever she had downloaded had installed tool bars and additional programs.

I ran a complete Avast scan and it found over 50 Trojans and instances of Malware. I moved them all to the chest. I have used Hijack This for years and haven't had any problems so I ran a Hijack This, saw that the programs and tools were still there and checked them for removal.

The computer seemed to be fine until she tried to get online. She runs Firefox and no server could be found. Ditto on the IE browser. The MSN browser connected but only to one site; no others.

I tried to do a System Restore and went back a week; unable to restore. Tried a date a couple of weeks earlier, same result, unable to restore.

Now she can't connect to the internet at all.

Thought perhaps it was somehow a Fire Wall issue and shut that down and tried to connect; nothing.

Well, the network says she is connected but she isn't, really. Tried the network repair and nothing.

I have a laptop I can access the internet with from her room so I can post from it while working on hers, which seems to be the only way I can get your assistance.

Please help, she has murder in her eyes when she looks at me.

At least she isn't crying.

Yet.

Please go to the malware forum and follow the instructions at the top....Especially the CLICK HERE.

That will give you several steps that will help you clean up 70 percent of all problems by yourself. If at the end of the process you are still having difficulty (and you may not be) then post a hijackthis log in THE MALWARE FORUM forum.
(Posting HiJack This logs in any other forum other than the malware forum is forbidden. If you post an HJT log in any other forum, it will be removed and it will take you longer to get help, so please make sure you only post HJT logs in the malware forum)

If you are still having problems after getting a clean bill of health from the malware expert, please return to this thread..
