:tazz: ;) ;)

Guys & Girls at GeeksToGo - what a fantastic site - My Thanks for all your efforts - it has helped me greatly so far - just tell me where to send the money !

Having gotten scared by Adware/Spyware on my system, many hours and your 'Start Here' document have helped me clean things up but I'm concerned that the following still exist - I have seen them mentioned for delete in other topics here;

bln02nqv.exe - in c:\windows\system32

updcheck.exe - in c:\windows\system32

updcheck.exe-2F1AE0CC.pf - in c:\windows\prefetch

tcpcheck.exe-22FA5EFG.pf - in c:\windows\prefetch

These are the ones I know about, but am concerned my system is not as 'clean' as I think.

I have;

1 - Run Ad-Aware - now Clean
2 - Run CWShredder - now Clean
3 - Run Spybot S&D - now Clean
4 - Run NIS/NAV 2005 - now Clean
5 - Run Trend Housecall - now Clean

6 - Updated Windows XP Home to SP 1a I think (any easy way to tell ?) as it was not very clear from the MS download.

I have not run Hijack This as I decided to ask for advice before going any further.

What do you think please ?

Many Thanks for all you good work.

Hi hlbinternational

Let us take a closer look at what is running on your PC. We'll need you to use a free diagnostic tool (HiJackThis) and post a log back here with the results.

Click the HijackThis Guide in my signature, download it and follow the instructions in the guide.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, DO NOT delete or modify anything yet! Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.

Hi hlbinternational

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [tcp checker] tcpcheck.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [CPQHotkeys] hotkeysvc.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [tcp checker] tcpcheck.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [tcp checker] tcpcheck.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [CPQHotkeys] hotkeysvc.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\RunServices: [tcp checker] tcpcheck.exe
O23 - Service: TCPIP Managing Service (TCPIPManagingService) - Unknown owner - tcpcheck.exe (file missing)

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

Using Windows Explorer, locate the following files/folders, and delete them:
tcpcheck.exe
hotkeysvc.exe
O23 - Service: TCPIP Managing Service (TCPIPManagingService) - Unknown owner - tcpcheck.exe (file missing)

Exit Explorer.

Download Pocket Killbox and unzip it; save it to your Desktop.
Run killbox and click the radio button that says Delete a file on reboot. For each of the files you could not delete, paste them one at a time into the full path of file to delete box and click the red circle with a white cross in it.
The program will ask you if you want to reboot; say No each time until the last one has been pasted in whereupon you should answer Yes. Let the system reboot.
tcpcheck.exe
hotkeysvc.exe
tcpcheck.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\BLN02NQV.EXE

End of killbox files

Reboot as normal.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

023 - Service: TCPIP not found with Windows Explorer

3 - Pocket Killbox - OK no deletes (bln02nqv deleted manually before we started this process)

4 - Panda Scan Log pasted below

5 - Trendmicro - 1 item found and then removed using Delete - Trojan VBBOT.B from windows\system32\updcheck.exe (was this a good idea ?)

5 - After all the above, ran HijackThis, Scan Log posted below

Hi hlbinternational

Please read through the instructions before you start (you may want to print this out).

Please set your system to show all files; please see here if you're unsure how to do this.

Important Step
1. Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the service called:

TCPIPManagingService
When you find it, double-click on it. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok and close any open windows. If you don´t find this service listed go ahead with the next steps.

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an X in the boxes, only next to these following items:
O23 - Service: TCPIP Managing Service (TCPIPManagingService) - Unknown owner - tcpcheck.exe (file missing)
Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode: please see here if you are not sure how to do this.

C:\Temp\FLEOK
C:\temp\salm_kyf.dat.

End of killbox file's.

Reboot as normal.

Please run the following free, online virus scans.
http://housecall.tre.../start_corp.asp
http://www.pandasoft...n_principal.htm
Please post the logs From Panda virus scan and HJT.logWe will need them to remove previous infections that have left files on your system.

Thanks thatman,

Will do that and post later this morning (UK time).

In the previous process I posted :-

"5 - Trendmicro - 1 item found and then removed using Delete - Trojan VBBOT.B from windows\system32\updcheck.exe (was this a good idea ?)"

Was this OK please ?

Many Thanks

Have Fun

Hi hlbinternational

Download the Microsoft Antispyware
Unzip update the program then run Microsoft Antispyware.

Lets see if this will find any hidden Trojan’s http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
This setup contains the free as well as the plus-version of the ewido security suite. After the installation, a free 14-day test version containing all the extensions of the plus-version will be activated. At the end of the test phase, the extensions of the plus version are deactivated and the freeware version can be used unlimited times. The purchased license code of the plus version can be entered at any time.

Use windows explorer delete the following folder

C:\Temp\FLEOK

thatman,

The Microsoft link in your previous post does not appear to work - I'm trying to find the antispyware on the MS site myself.
