Hi guys,

Im running on windows xp professional (5.1 build 2600), my specs are:

Intel P4 511 LGA775 2.8ghz
MSI 915P neo2
directx 9.0c (June, Recently updated)
Nvidia Leadtek 6600GT (firmware version 94.24, recently updated)
2GB RAM
LG1952T monitor (digital)

I have sygate firewall pro and NOD32, windows defender, PG2 and some other misc. program running in the background. not much.

The problem is:

After the Welcome screen that appears(i have no user pw set), my desktop background and mouse pointer shows up first, after like 2-3mins, my desktop and taskbar icons then starts to show up, now that is whats bugging me as normally, afew seconds is all it takes to get all of the icons to appear...

I believe it all started a few days back, right after i installed Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots(game), Overlord(game), updated directx and my graphic driver, internet download manager and alcohol 120%,

I installed directx 9.0c (june) and updated my graphic card driver because my RoN had some problems, up till now its still not solved but i don't think its due to that...

I've tried disabling all programs at the startup tab,i even tried uninstalling those programs i've mentioned before, used jv16 powertools, ccleaner, spy eraser, spybot search and destroy, nod32, registry booster, did a disk check, defrag my drive.... god knows what else! nothing helps.

I'm starting to suspect it has something to do with programs related to windows. Though I could be wrong, Im not very good with computers.

I would just like to add that apart from the long bootup time, nothing seems to be amiss, everything is pretty much smooth as always, I do hope I don't have to do a reformat as I've just done it 2 months ago.. :whistling:

hmmmm any help will be greatly appreciated and pardon me for the long post! :help:

PS pardon me for my english, am not a native speaker of it. :help:

Items in blue which are underlined are clickable to give more information about the process

Click start then run, type prefetch then press enter, click edit then select all, right click any file then click delete, confirm delete

Click start, all programmes, accessories, system tools to run disc clean up, then from system tools, run disc defragmenter.

Click start then run, type sfc /scannow then press enter, you need the XP CD

Windows File Protection will show a blue onscreen progress bar, when the bar goes, reboot

If you do not have an XP CD you can borrow a same version as was originally installed XP CD, if you downloaded SP2 then you need an SP1 XP CD

Download and install Tune Up 2007 Trial

Run Tune Up Disc Clean Up

Run Tune Up Registry Clean Up

Click Optimize and Improve to run Reg Defrag, which will take a few minutes and need a reboot. You should disable the antivirus programme to run this

Check the anti virus is running after the reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to optimize the computer, select computer with an internet connection from the drop down menu, this also requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to accelerate downloads, select the speed just above your actual connection speed, this requires a reboot

After the reboot, click optimize then system optimizer to run system advisor

If you uninstalled a lot of programmes, their start up information could have been in prefetch and meant Windows would look for them as it was starting to load, which could have been the reason

Thank You for letting me know
