Extreme Slowdown

Happened about an hour ago, all of the sudden I experienced some extreme slowdown on my main system. Very slow to load windows, once it does icons are appearing 1 at a time, programs take 10-15 seconds to load up, and I'm out of answers.

I installed new mouse and keyboard drivers before it happened, but uninstalled them with no result. I have also run AVG Virus, Spybot S&D, and AdAware with no progress to report. As well as a registry cleaner with the same results. Any help would be VERY appreciated. Thanks!

Wanted to add another note. Replacing the regisry files that were cleaned up had no effect.

Nothing at all in the task manager is showing high readings, and I'm only using 383MB of the page file.

It feels like the processor is just running slow, or a memory leak of some kind, but I have nothing to colaborate it.

One more update.

It is slowly getting MUCH worse. I'm at the point now where my keystrokes and mouse are lagging behind.

(since were all geeks here) this is worse than an old 486DX I still have... literally.

I'm starting to back up files to do a complete format and re-install. Any help before it comes to that would be greatly appreciated.
