Hi ...

I could use some help.

I have an old failing disk with xp and all my data on it.
I bought a new 250g WD disk. used their tools to copy everything.
I then got something 'evil' on my new disk. Start menu icons were
being replaced w/ blank ones, my system restore suddenly has problems.

So, I put my old disk back in. The system restore wizard comes up. My
Start menu icons are there for excel and word. I've tryed two attemts
to recopy my system to the new disk. 1st attempt, WD's software said
they were going to reformat ... but it appeared that they didn't ... so I
got the same problem. 2nd attempt, I reformatted the new disk. Then
used WD's software (Data LifeGuard Tools) and copied it all again. Rebooted
with the new disk. My ICONs were there. I did not check the system restore right
away (I probably should have). I'm thinking all is good. I think I then installed
norton anti-virus live updates which asked for a restart ... restarted ... ICONs gone and
restore doesn't work.

So ... how does this malware show up on my new disk after I reformatted the disk?

Should I copy my disk over again?

Any suggestions, help would be GREATLY appreciated.
