My computer was infested with malware and spyware and viruses so I said forget it and tried to reboot it (diff computer) (window xp) whenever it got to the point where it asks you to either repair or install windows I hit ENTER and my computer restarts! So I plugged that hard drive into this current computer rebooted it through here and put it back into my computer and now whenever it tries to start up i have to hit enter to start windows automatically. When I do it waits a few seconds then a blue screen flashes REALLY quick and then the computer restarts and keeps repeating. When i try to reboot it, it does the same thing it did before it restarts after I hit enter.

Well I think what might of caused all this is the fact it was storming really bad and I was still on it. My power fickered (this is when i started realizing weird problems. Well then my 0, -, = keys were no longer working but my 9 and 8 keys were but not the ( )... I went behind my computer to check the problem and when i was trying to unplug my usb cable it make a weird static noise. (if im to vague please ask me anything)

you cannot install windows with the drive in one machine then place the drive into another machine and expect it to boot....XP DOES NOT work that way...it relies too much on the hardware profile it's installed on (you used to be able to do this with windows 98 and below...but not with XP)

IF you were to attempt to do this you COULD try installing XP on the drive while it's in the one machine....then when you put the drive back in the other machine boot directly to the XP disk (before trying to get into windows for the first time) and preform a repair installation of windows on that first boot...this MIGHT get windows to function correctly as it will wipe the drivers from the first install

Repair the Windows XP installation.

To do this, follow these steps:

• Make sure that the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive is the first priority startup device.
  See your computer documentation for information about how to do this.
• Insert the Windows XP CD into the CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer.
• When the instruction to "Press any key to boot from CD" appears, press a key. Your computer starts from the Windows XP CD.
• When the computer starts from the CD, the system verifies your hardware, and then prompts you to select one of the following options:
  

  - To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER
  - To repair a Windows XP installation using Recovery Console, press R.
  - To quit Setup without installing Windows XP, press F3.

• Press ENTER.
• Press F8 to accept the Licensing Agreement.
• A box lists your current Windows XP installation, and then the computer prompts you to select one of the following options:
  

  - To repair the selected Windows XP installation, press R.
  - To continue installing a fresh copy of Windows XP without repairing, press ESC.

• Press R.

You'll get to keep your existing apps & settings, but you need to re-install SP2, Windows Updates & any unsigned drivers afterwards.
NOTE: Be aware that you'll lose any protection from Blaster / Sasser type worms. Don't go online without a firewall, whether the built in Windows one or 3rd party.

well the problem is when i do all that to reboot or repair it and it asked to hit ENTER i hit enter and my computer turns itself off

oh wait you mean i can take my one harddrive and put it back into this machine and then repair and then put it back into the other one?


EDIT: Do you have any idea why it would restart when i am trying to reboot it? It is rather annoying...
