I have upgraded to wsus 3.0 on a server but was wondering how I can remotely admin that now. With wsus 2.0 you could use: http://server:8530/WSUSAdmin/

But I cant connect to 3.0. Anyone know?

Thanks

i don't know that you can...still researching but it looks like it uses an MMC console...through the WSUS installer you can select to install the management console only on a remote machine which would allow you to connect to 3.0 from there

I did upgrade from 2 and I havent had a single problem with it. I like it better, it has 3 vertical panes with the center pane split horizontally. Gives tons of quick click access plus pie graphs and percentages for each update. If I can get the remote admin stuff down I would say it would be the best update MS has released yet :whistling:

The only thing is you need to make sure that you are using mmc v3 as well. I had to update both my xp and the server. I ran the install again on my workstation and it has an administration console you can install that is put in your administrative tools section. so that answers that question!

Thanks for the help.

sounds good. When it starts getting into IIS I get out of my comfort zone.

I can run the remote console on my workstation if I use Run As: admin but not as my user, even though admin and I are in the same wsus groups. Thought I would give you a headstart.

Hmm not sure. I didnt run into that.

I did find my solution though, whatever user is going to run the admin console from their workstation needs to be a member in:
the builtin group: DOMAIN\Administrators
user groups: WSUS Administrators and
WSUS Reporters

You can definitely manage it remotely, and you can do so through a new MMC.
